The Easter Rising was an armed insurrection in Dublin during Easter week, 1916, that changed the course of Irish history. Ancestry has released court martial records which make the incident and the Irish republican leaders come alive.
While the Easter Rising was a failure from a military standpoint, it led to Ireland gaining its independence in 1922. An Ancestry manager, Mike Mulligan, reflects on the importance of the event in his blog posting: http://blogs.ancestry.com/ancestry/2016/03/22/the-1916-easter-rising-the-courts-martial-files/.
Ancestry is offering free access to its entire collection of Irish records during the month of March.
