“Double-good” Irish Saturday

Read about IGSI classes for Irish Saturday. There will be TWO classes on June 9, one in the morning and one in the afternoon!

June 9, 2012

Time: 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon

Class Title: Why is Griffith’s Valuation Important and What Can it  Tell Me?

Beth Vought, Instructor
Is Griffith’s Valuation still a mystery to you?  Do you still wonder how it can be important to you with your search for your ancestor in Ireland?  How can you figure out when there are many with the same name, which one is your ancestor?  This class may give you some insight.  We’ll start with the basic concept of what Griffith’s is, then go on to when it may be beneficial for you to use it, and all the information you may get from it.

Time: 12:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Class Title: PRONI Wills Online

Beth Vought, Instructor

Wills were not common documents in the annals of Irish history but they are out there.  One free online source is through the PRONI (Public Record Office of Northern Ireland) website.  There are people mentioned in wills on their website who lived in all areas of Ireland and even in America.  In this class I’ll talk about what you may find in the wills, or in the will abstracts if the will has been lost.  I will show you how to search for wills and we’ll do some searches in class.
