Facts & myths about Irish research

Don’t forget the Minnesota Irish Fair this weekend, August 11-13!

If you’d like to research your Irish family history, you won’t want to miss this free activity at the fair.  IGSI President Audrey Leonard and genealogist Mary Wickersham will be presenting a lecture on Sunday, August 13 (11:00 AM), called Facts and Myths about Irish Research.

Two of the myths they cover are “all Catholic register are online” and the ever-popular myth “of course they were Catholic, they were Irish.” Audrey and Mary will also be providing some pointers on the more unique aspects of Irish research. The lecture is free of charge!

For more detail about the speakers, please read on:

Audrey Leonard started her family genealogy more than 20 years ago after discovering she had grown up only nine blocks from her great-grandfather’s homestead in South St. Paul. Since joining the Irish Genealogical Society International (IGSI), she has been active as a researcher, librarian, genealogy instructor and is currently on her third term as President.

Mary Wickersham, past President and current Treasurer of IGSI, started her research when planning a trip to Ireland. In addition to her IGSI volunteer work, Mary is a member, past officer and volunteer for the Minnesota Genealogical Society (MGS) and is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists.
