New home for IGSI

Irish Genealogical Society International (IGSI) is getting settled into its new home in Mendota Heights.

The following article, written by Ann Eccles, was published in the November-December issue of the Ginealas eNewsletter:

Yes, very shortly, the IGSI will have a new home in Mendota Heights, Minnesota! The IGSI research collection – part of the William J. Hoffman Library and Research Center – will be available to Irish researchers on Wednesday, November 29. (Yes, it can take that long to move a large genealogy collection!) The space has been remodeled for our needs, with improved access, better Wi-Fi, and additional meeting spaces.

The new building will be called the Minnesota Genealogy Center and will continue to house the collections of 12 genealogy societies located in Minnesota. Because we have had to close for the move, we hope to keep the library open additional hours through the month of December. If you are an out-of-state member who will visit the area during the holidays, call ahead to see if the library will be open during your December visit.

The new location is great for everyone. No stairs, no elevators, just a gentle slope up to the front door, lots of parking, and there will always be someone there to greet you. If you want to be shown around, just ask one of the volunteers who will gladly give you a tour of the new space. For those who rode the bus to our South St. Paul location, we are working on bus information to this new site so watch our website for details on how to find us.

Our new address, effective November 1 is:

IRISH Genealogical Society International

1385 Mendota Heights Road, Suite 100

Mendota Heights, Minnesota   55120

Phone: 651-330-9312

The new location is easy to find. It’s in Mendota Heights – just a couple of blocks north of Highway 494 on the northeast corner of Pilot Knob Road and Mendota Heights Road. Note: If you plan to renew your membership by check, please send it to the new address above.

Join us for an Open House at the new location on December 9, 11 am – 2 pm. Get an early look at the new library and check out new additions to the collection. Perhaps even do a bit of research. Then relax with other IGSI researchers and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and a cookie.
