Waterford treasures

Today is the last full day of IGSI’s whirl-wind tour of Ireland. Many of us catch flights back to the US tomorrow morning.

24 (26?) generations of Fitzgeralds

The Fitzgerald clan will be celebrating the family’s 24 generations on July 2-5, 2015, at Dromana House, Villierstown, in West Waterford. They will also be commemorating the 800 years since King John of England granted Counties Cork and Waterford to Fitzgerald ancestor Thomas Fitz-Anthony.

New Irish Surnames Index

Earlier this month an Irish Surnames Index was made available for searching on www.dĂșchas.ie. The compilation of nearly 3000 surnames emerged from almost 80 years of collecting work by the Irish Folklore Commission, which began officially collecting folklore from around the country in 1935.

Armagh, Cork North East and Waterford Records

The Irish Family History Foundation’s Online Research Service (ORS) recently announced the availability of additional records from the Armagh Ancestry, Mallow Heritage and Waterford Heritage centres.

Beginning in 1989, the Irish Genealogical Society International (IGSI) has worked with the Genealogical Office of Ireland in Dublin to research and index Irish estate records located in the National Library of Ireland (NLI) and the National Archives of Ireland (NAI).
